Will Fact To File Outshine Galopin Des Champs in the Gold Cup?
The Cheltenham Festival is set to begin next week, with the spotlight on the Gold Cup!
Defending champion Galopin Des Champs aims for consecutive wins in this prestigious event and is a top pick among many to secure the celebrated cup again. Following two remarkable Grade 1 victories at Leopardstown, capturing the Irish Gold Cup and the Savills Chase this season, Willie Mullins' star horse is a strong contender in the Blue Riband event.
While Galopin Des Champs stands out as this year's prime contender, Tony Mullins, Willie's brother, suggests that there's a promising younger horse in Willie's stable capable of outperforming last year's winner.
This horse is Fact To File, who finished second in the previous year's Champion Bumper and has transitioned directly to chasing this season. Fact To File is currently leading in the odds for the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase on the festival's second day.
Tony Mullins comments:
“Fact To File is the new champion. I think he’d actually beat Galopin Des Champs in the Gold Cup!
“This is the new champion, JP [McManus] has never owned one like this and he’s owned a lot of good horses.
“Out of this world this horse, no questions about his jumping, about him staying, no questions about nothing.
“He’ll do a Lossiemouth on it and he’ll win half the track!”
