Mullins Sells Cheltemham Hopeful, What Path
What Path is one of three horses sold
Willie Mullins has parted ways with three horses at Thoroughbid's June Sale, fetching surprisingly modest sums, one of which is already earmarked for potential success at the Cheltenham Festival.
Among them, What Path fetched an auction-topping £27,000, a notable figure though relatively humble in comparison to top-tier sales. Similarly, We'llhavewan and Cadoudal Saint were acquired for £11,000 and £9,000 respectively.
What Path, a seven-year-old who competed in the same colours as previous Supreme winner Appreciate It and Kilcruit, boasts an impressive record under Mullins with three victories, including two significant hurdle races over three miles.
Patrick Mullins, who rode We'llhavewan to victory in a handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe last year, believes there's potential for the nine-year-old to excel, particularly eyeing the Pertemps race at the Festival. He noted,
"We’llhavewan might be the best value buy. He’s the sort of horse who could easily be competitive in some of those valuable staying chases and maybe get to Cheltenham as a Pertemps horse."
Reflecting on the sale, James Richardson, Thoroughbid boss, expressed satisfaction, stating,
"We’re pleased to have sold a further three horses for the Mullins team. Their horses often prove popular for people looking for a good calibre of horse-in-training, while Willie and Patrick seem happy with how easy it is to sell online."
The transactions add to Mullins' ongoing success in both racing and sales, demonstrating his knack for identifying and developing talent within his stable.
